Describing ME

If I had to describe myself in three words right now, I would say that I am...

1) PassionateOverly so.. I mean passionate in the dedicated to causes, caring way too much kind of sense. I didn't even realise how strongly I felt about the Lisbon Treaty until the results starting coming in. I genuinely, in my heart of hearts, never thought the 'No' side would win. I mean how could they when all the major parties were backing it ??? Even for people who knew nothing about it, surely that fact would have been a reassuring factor. Irish people surely couldn't think that Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and Labour were all just trying to screw them into the ground by calling for a 'Yes' vote. I mean, I harbor unkind feelings for all those parties but common intelligence would tell me that if they all publicly agree on something (which is rare!) then it must have some value. I mean that's what I would think if I hadn't done any research on the Treaty...but I did...and I came to my own conclusions about how important I think it is for the future of
Ireland…and Europe.
And now I have pretty much lost whatever little faith I had left in Irish people and I don't like that feeling because it almost feels like a little part of me has become empty. The part that used to be proud of her fellow Irish people in general. I'm still trying to come to terms with what consequences this lack of faith will have for me. On one hand, it sickens me to wake up in a country where groups like Libertas can indoctrinate the masses but on the other hand, I don't want to be someone who just runs away because things get hard or don't go my own way. After all, one of the reasons I got involved in politics was because I was so sick of people complaining about things but never doing anything about them. I want to do things. I want to make a difference. Or at least try!

2) UnderstandingI would really like to think that I'm not a particularly judgmental person. I definitely was as a child...but that's all I was back then - a child. I wasn't me. The me who I am (if that makes any sense) hates the thought of anyone being judged unfairly or discriminated against...and I think I have recently realised that it is my instinct to put other people's happiness before my own and then simply to be happy just because they are happy. After all, the only other option is to be jealous of them which leads to resentment. Jealousy in abundance is the worst emotion of them all because it consumes you. I think I can forgive a lot if I can grasp even a slight understanding of the person’s mindset. And I think I have forgiven a lot in the last little while…and I feel so much better for it. Win-win :) The only times when I can feel myself getting really frustrated with people I care about is when I feel they are not working as hard as I am on something. I’m an all or nothing kind of person at times and I find it difficult to take sometimes when people aren’t as committed as I am to a certain task. I understand this is my own problem though and it stems from being passionate. Caring too much. I’m working on it, I promise.
3) Eccentric
I feel the most comfortable when I am being a little bit different to everyone else. I’m still not 100% sure why this is. I think it must be down to the rebellious streak in me. Rebelling against my mom…and against society and taking delight in their reactions to my behavior. I don’t think I do that anymore, rebel for their reactions….I do unusual things because I think stretching boundaries is incredibly freeing.
In normal everyday life, if somebody I meet asks me to describe myself in 3 words, without thinking too much, I will say that I’m crazy, creative and caring. Or at least I try to be! And you know there is no bad kind of crazy…

To blog..or not to blog? That is the question.

Hmm...this blogging malarky is a lot harder than it looks.
It should come with a warning sign - 'Not for lazy people!'.

(my artistic talents are second to none, no?)

Anyway...I've decided to test my enthusiasim and staying power again and try to blog regularly.
Hopefully this will motivate my muse too. I live in hope.

Stolen digestive biscuits taste best

Fact! Digestive biscuits 'borrowed' from a friend taste the sweetest. I learned that during my schools days. Remembered it today! ;-)

Yesterday was an interesting day. I wasn't feeling 100% when I woke up. Stupid antibiotics.
I debated between going to help out at the office or heading to liffey val to try and find the perfect engagement card for my brother. I opted for the latter.

I'm nearly jumping out of myself to get back to UL and back into college life. Rag Week is going to be insane!!!!! I know I have a lot to catch up on course work-wise though so I'll have to spend at least a few hours in the libo during the week. Emphasis has to be on passing my summer exams from now on. Oh..and finding work for the summer. I still have no idea what I'm going to do this summer. I had my heart set on going to England and Scotland to work for a few months...but my brother's wedding has kinda thrown those plans. I don't want to be too far away from home during the lead up to the wedding. Mum suggested Galway. I LOVE Galway City but I guess I'll just have to think about it some more.

Lots to do today so I gotta go...

Greening it up

Some great photos from tonight's match to follow below....
but first a quick recap of my day pre-match...

Woke up. Got dropped off at Paul's office. Chatted with Brian and David for ages. Then wrote a couple of articles. Started updating constituency database with St.Eds reply info. Then I walked up to parish centre to drop in a YG piece for the newsletter. I met Lukey in Molloys and he walked to Joeys with me. I planned to catch up with one of my old teachers who has some great journalist and political contacts...but couldn't find her at the school. I'll try again 2mor!
!

I wandered into Tesco on my way home from the office. Turned out to be quite an adventure....but anyway, I better sleep now ;)

Here are the great match photos as promised!
(you can find them on the brill BBC sport webpage also)

YUM :-)

Man United - Lyon

I was going to wait til after the Man United-Lyon match to write this blog...but instead I've decided to write my own commentary for the match as it happens! Purely for my own entertainment of course. Non-football fans probably shouldn't read any further.

The Man Utd line-up is a surpise..

Van der Sar

Brown Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Fletcher Carrick Anderson
Ronaldo Nani
Rooney

(but knowing those players, they'll all be switching places and driving Lyon crazy.. Bring it on!)

I'm sure Ronaldo will push forward as the second striker when needs be. I'm slightly surprised to see Hargreaves left out as Fergie tends to opt for him in Europe. I'm not a Fletcher fan but he has been in decent form lately so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt! Nani and Anderson have so much potential so I'm excited to see them both in the team tonight!
It won't be an easy game. Lyon are a very good team. Not great, but very good. I'm not going to predict the score, just the result...man united to win! I have faith!

And we're off....

Evra booked. Careful now... Juninho free-kick. Harmless. The refree is firey and slightly over-dramatic.. He should be entertaining to watch!

Damn..Barcelona have just scored in their tie with Celtic. I think the result is inevitable there but I hope Celtic fight as valiantly as they did a fortnight ago.

Ronaldo is working hard and breaks but despite his best efforts and many dummies, the final one doesn't pay off. Ronnie is devestatingly sexy even when he is disappointed in himself...Yum yum yum!

Lovely work by Ronaldo and Anderson! Lyon clear the danger but Ronaldo gestures at the crowd to up the volume!

Wild shot by Fletcher but at least it was a goal attempt (I think) ...

Lyon are getting a lot of men behind the ball and trying to crowd each United attack out. It is working fairly well so far.

Lyon finally get the ball in United's half.. Benzema shoots high and wide from distance.

Free-kick to United in Ronaldo territory......... Ohh, not quite. It hits the wall and Rooney hits the rebound out of play. Goal kick.

Yellow card for Lyon player Grosso (nice name!) for dissent.

Stunning passing from United. That's why I love Carrick in our team!

Corner to United. Cross by Nani. Lyon clear.

Lyon break but United handle the pressure well. Lyon show they have some fire in their bellies yet.

More pressure by Lyon. They're menacing when they are on the ball. The United defence must not go to sleep!

Another Ronaldo free-kick.... Hits the wall again. Vidic hits the rebound this time. Row Z.

Fletcher the the Lyon goalie colide going for the ball. The ref has a word but all is good.

Man United corner materialises to nothing...

GOAL !!!!!! RONALDO !!!!!! Goal mouth scramble. Ronaldo thinks quickest! Ah it's lovely to see him smile :-) He's been frustrated up until now..
That makes it 30 goals for Ronaldo this season. INCREDIBLE.

Yellow for Nani at the other end of the pitch. Seems a little harsh but it was a clumsy tackle.

Juninho takes the free-kick. Van der Sar clears. United start to break but the ball goes out of play..

HALF-TIME Man United 1 - 0 Lyon (2-1 AGG)

Burrr.. Just heard the local weather forecast here in Lucan. Temps between -2 and 2 degrees celcius. Fun... I better fill the hot water bottles again.

The game belongs to United but I can't see Lyon accepting that just yet. It's gonna be an interesting second half.

And we're back...

Fergie is smiling :-) I wonder why...ha

Scrappy. Lots of early play in the middle of the pitch.

Ronaldo looks a little uncomfortable following a challenge by a Lyon player a few mins ago. Tevez is warming up on the side-lines.

United are doing some defending. Ronaldo is helping out now. Lyon can't create anything, thankfully.

United press but Lyon push them back. Still, its comfortable for United.

Squillaci booked for Lyon. Foul on Nani.

Free-kick to Lyon just inside the United half. Drilled by Juninho. Corner resulting in mile-wide shot by Ben Arfa (who I reckon is a cool, promising young player).

Throw-in to Lyon near corner flag. Lyon players try a one-two. Off-side.

Shot by Nani. Nice idea but execution didn't quite match.

Possession is zig-zagging. Some lovely interceptions by Fletcher. A little sloppy from Ronaldo.

Lyon are looking to make a substitution. Govou is coming off. Keita on.

Tevez is coming on for United...Yay! Lyon have a half-chance will Tevez prepares himself.
Anderson is being withdrawn. Aw, he looks quite down but he did well!

Lyon break with some great passing. Corner. Bad corner.

United break now! End to end stuff. Great work by Rooney and tries to pass to Tevez but just over-hits it.

Fletcher booked for foul on Ben Arfa.

Lyon break again. Great shot by Keita but it comes back off the post.

United again. Lyon keeper does well. Corner. Lyon clear.

Another corner. Same outcome.

Lyon aren't giving up. Fred, their Brazilian striker is coming on for Kallstrom, a midfielder.

10 minutes left. Still plenty of football left to be played.

Lyon free-kick. Juninho. Way, way off target yet again.

Great break by United... but Rooney over-elaborates :/ Lots of action in the Lyon half.

Ronaldo, my sweetheart, doesn't quite get his cross right. I'll gladly console him for a min.

Just hearing that Arsenal have scored against Milan.. :O

Ronaldo is being substituted now. Hargreaves is on.

Goal-kick byVan der Sar.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! We're through to the quarters !!!

The Arsenal result has just been announced at Old Trafford. They've managed to score again in after time. Milan 0- 2 Arsenal. The whole crowd breath in deeply in disbelief. Fair dues to Wenger and his boys though.
Celtic go out, as expected.

I'm pretty happy with the night overall :-)

Reason for the photo ?? Just because! :P

Sweet dreams.....
